The weather has been so mild that I have resisted harvesting the Pineapple Sage in the greenhouse. Look how absolutely gorgeous it is! This plant has brightened these unrelenting gray November days.
Today I struck a bargain with myself. I would cut back one of the plants and leave the other to continue blooming for awhile. I spent some time with the Pineapple Sage spirit. The individual flowers and spikes of flowers have a vivid aura.
The sweet pineapple scent filled the greenhouse as I cut the branches. It felt wonderful to be harvesting this great plant. I will be able to move this pot of Salvia elegans to the unheated portion of our basement where the Lotuses, Water Lilies, and other non-hardy plants are spending the winter.
There are many buds in various stage of growth on the remaining plant. I can't imagine that the greenhouse will continue to be warm enough to see these buds bloom, but I'm going to err on the side of hopefulness and caution and leave this plant to continue to grow and bloom.
I'll hang these flowering branches to dry and the prepare them for storage in glass jars. Imagine the tea that will be brewed during February snowstorms!
