Yesterday we hit 70 degrees! In January! And I let myself feel "too busy" to make it out to the woods. Today it was cold and windy, so I stayed inside again. It was time to make a big batch of salve. To initiate this project, it was necessary to boil my jars to make certain they were completely sterile both physically and vibrationally.
There are several salve recipes that I make on a regular basis, but "Baby Balm" is probably the most popular. It's a really good all purpose healing salve and it is a very soothing diaper ointment.
Salves look deceptively easy to make. In reality, the process takes longer than you think. The genesis of Baby balm is the garden. Chickweed, Comfrey, and Calendula must be harvested at their peak and infused in Extra Virgin Olive Oil. The oils must be strained and stored until they are combined in proper proportions.
All summer long, just a mile or more up the street from Lichenwood, the bees at Ragged Robin Farm are busy making beeswax. I use this local beeswax whenever possible. Some years are not happy ones for the Ragged Robin hives and then I must purchase my beeswax a bit further afield.
Flower essences and essential oils are added to the warm oil and melted beeswax. The jars of hot salve slowly solidify before I seal them up.
Tomorrow I'll label the jars and pack them up for shipping.
