Just before midnight on February 13th, the planet Mercury began its retrograde cycle in Pisces. Valentine's Day dawned in New England with a much anticipated snow storm complete with blowing drifting snow and the threat of ice and sleet. Even my husband stayed home and didn't attempt the drive to work. Mercury rules his chart. He connected to his work obligations via computer. Work issues went smoothly, but we have experienced our share of Mercury woes since: a malfunctioning snowplow, stereo speakers suddenly quitting, missed appointments. Knowing that these small annoyances are somehow "written in the stars" eases the irritation quotient. Here is an excellent article by Robert Wilkinson that gives a detailed heads up on how to work the energy of this Mercury retrograde.
My Valentine planned early and brought this small potted rosebush to me the night before the storm. I really like it's old fashioned blooming habit, almost like a David Austin type rose. I have plans for adding more roses to the landscape here at Lichenwood over the summer. I'll be planting a Blaze improved rambler and a Chicago Peace. Of course, I'll tuck this little Valentine into the the garden as well. Mercury retrograde can be a good time to sit with seed and nursery catalogs going over your garden plans. Just don't send out your order until after March 8th when the planet stations direct!
I decided to become a hermit during this time period of confusion and accidents and I'm so glad, I am getting much done and feel safe at home but all those around me are really struggling. I'm glad you have this rose to keep you company! It's stunning.
